Essential Duties and Responsibilities may include the following (others may be assigned):
  • Directs the hourly workforce including production operators, journeymen, assemblers and laborers.  (The Manufacturing Supervisor has general responsibility for coordinating and supervising all manufacturing activities on a daily basis.  Under the direction of the Manufacturing Manager, the Manufacturing Supervisor is responsible for supervising the production of products in a manner consistent with company service, productivity, and cost objectives.)
  • Communicates daily team/department expectations and monitors performance of set-ups, tool trouble, quality, rates and machine utilization. Communicate daily why machines are not running to quote.
  • Administers company policies.
  • Develops and documents manufacturing processes.
  • Trains employees on manufacturing processes.
  • Troubleshoots and implements continuous techniques to enhance productivity and quality.
  • Determines statistical capabilities.
  • Assists process engineer with quotes, repeat/new jobs (job directions, cycles, quality, equipment needs, operator rate, etc.).
  • Looks for ways to reduce process costs.
  • Coordinates job assignments of team members.
  • Assists team members in identifying problem areas, corrective actions, and assures corrective actions are implemented.
  • Posts schedules and daily production results.
  • At release of order, coordinates schedules for tools/gages/material/outside services to ensure schedule starts on time and progresses. Takes action to address problems with appropriate teams, departments, or leadership.
  • Tracks inventory.
  • Sets up machines when necessary.
  • Supervises and coordinates all manufacturing activities within their department, manage productivity, quality, and conformance to customer service requirements.  Reports on progress.
  • Ensure all production meets customer quality requirements and WPC quality standards.
  • Participate in establishing work schedules.  Ensure that the schedules are correctly implemented and that jobs are assigned effectively and completed properly.
  • Maintains a clean, neat, and orderly work area.  Assists in maintaining the security of the factory.  Conducts operations in a manner that promotes safety.  Conducts operations in accordance with OSHA standards.
  • Directs the operations of the production work team to achieve prescribed objectives.  In collaboration with the Manager of Human Resources, develops and maintains a productive work team by creating programs for hiring, training, and professional development.  Applies sound communication and motivational techniques in supervising, counseling, and disciplining subordinates.  Provides input into the performance evaluation system for recommending promotions, wage increases, and terminations.
  • Completes all necessary records and reports in a timely and accurate fashion.
  • Assures the integrity of the inventory and material utilization.
  • Attends manufacturing meetings.  Interacts with other departments, customers, and employees.  Acts as liaison between employees and top management.
  • Reviews the performance of manufacturing CITs on all shifts while ensuring accountability to established performance standards and develops improvement actions and plans as required when performance is less than desired.
  • Sets expectations and monitors the performance of manufacturing salaried employees, conducting employee reviews to identify their strengths and weaknesses.  Develops action plans to improve employee performance when improvements are required.
  • Defines training needs.
  • Supports and promotes alignment with the company philosophy of Winning Manufacturing (Model of Success and Team-Based Continuous Improvement).
  • Assures compliance with company work policies and union contract.
  • Confers with quality, engineering, and sales on a regular basis to define requirements and opportunities.
  • Identifies need for and manages outside support.
  • Manages personnel and systems, which will ensure tracking, inventory, and movement of raw material as it is processed through WPC’s manufacturing process.
  • Participates in development and maintenance of an accurate tracking system that will be responsive to all functions.
  • Assures company wide effective communications and coordination
  • Supports WPC’s IATF 16949 efforts by complying with quality policies and procedures; conducts internal compliance audits as requested after proper training.
 
Requirements:
  • Familiarity with machining
  • Excellent communication and human-relation skills
  • Ability to think quickly and handle various situations as they arise
  • Excellent problem solving and organizational skills
  • Must be highly skilled in Statistical process control techniques
  • Some college
  • 5 years experience
  • Management and supervisory skills in addition to manufacturing experience 
  • Familiarity with personal computers and production equipment is essential
  • Computer literacy
