Tool Room Machinist

Performs preventative and emergency maintenance; Designs and fabricates specialized gages, tooling, dies, supports, safety covers and staging fixtures per concepts and specifications and may also perform improvements and/or modifications to machines, equipment and/or facilities, while using various types of measuring and testing equipment, powered vehicles, PC/ controllers and general machining equipment/machines, insuring proper records are maintained for such activities, conducts communication and/or training relating to maintenance operations and participates in continuous improvement practices.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES may include the following (others may be assigned):
  • Installs, maintains and repairs machinery, equipment, plant facilities, pipe and electrical systems, employing the use of hand tools, power tools/equipment, forklifts and other types of tools/equipment, following the directions contained in manuals, schematic diagrams or other documentation.
  • Installs switches/sensors, tool monitors, tools, dies, guards, part-transfer and other special tooling/fixtures in support of jobs and processes.
  • Tests machines, equipment and facilities using mechanical/electronic test equipment to detect and diagnose malfunctions of machines/equipment/facilities
  • Dismantles and reassembles machines, equipment and/or facilities installing new and/or rebuilt parts, following instructions contained in specifications and/or other documentation, may layout and assemble piping systems (hydraulic and pneumatic) and replace or repair gauges, valves, pressure regulators or other such equipment and may also install, program and /or modify automated types of machines/equipment in performing repairs and/or improvements.
  • Analyzes and troubleshoots conformance and processes to specifications and operating standards, making corrections as required.
  • Uses machining principles and knowledge of shop mathematics to cut, drill, bore, thread, grind, broach, mold or mill according to customer specifications.
  • Reviews set-up of machine to ensure safe operation of tool room equipment.
  • Visually inspects, cleans and/or lubricates machines, equipment and/or facilities, replacing belts, filters, cables/wiring or other types of items- the performance of preventative maintenance activities.
  • May set up and operate machine tools, such as lathes, grinders, mills and other types of equipment to fabricate repair parts, supports/brackets and /or other special items required for the performance of maintenance activities.
  • May operate welding equipment to repair and/or fabricate equipment, machines and/or facilities.
  • Documents information for future use.
  • Completes various types of forms and documentation (work orders, purchase requisitions, logs, etc.) in the performance of the maintenance activities.
  • Submits Continuous Improvement ideas.
  • Performs daily routine clean-up operations in work areas.
  • Attends production/performance review and team-based continuous improvement meetings.
  • Completes Apprentice reviews when requested by Management.
  • Supports IATF by compliance with quality policies and procedures. After proper training, conducts internal compliance audits when requested.
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Successful completion of a 2-4 year technical school education
  • Minimum 8,000 hours on-the-job related training.
  • Completion of a pre-employment drug test with negative results.
