Maintenance Technician

The Maintenance Technician (multiple shifts available) will work with the Maintenance Supervisor and with other plant personnel to perform preventative, predictive and routine maintenance as well as special projects; or repair and build electrical systems, electrical and electronic components, and elector-mechanical devices of industrial machinery and equipment.

Essential functions and Responsibilities may include the following (others may be assigned):
  • Requires familiarity with hydraulics and pneumatics
  • Ensures mechanical operations of CNC Machines, mills, lathes, grinders, conveyors, forklifts and other miscellaneous equipment
  • Reads and interprets electrical schematics
  • Repairs electrical equipment while troubleshooting wiring, motor controls and sensors
  • Adjusts functional parts of devices and control instruments.
  • Checks fits, clearances and appropriate adjustments to equipment.
  • Installs special functional and structural parts in equipment (electrical / mechanical).
  • Uses various devices to test equipment’s performance.
  • Initiates purchase order for parts and machines.
  • General building & facility maintenance
  • Installs power supply wiring and conduit for newly installed machines and equipment such as robots, conveyors, and programmable controllers.
  • Diagnoses malfunctioning apparatus such as transformers, motors, and lighting fixtures and replaces damaged or broken wires and cables.
  • Tests machinery to diagnose malfunctions, identify faulty components, specify replacements and recommend components to order after researching most cost effective solutions.
  • Replaces faulty electrical components of machines such as relays, switches, and motors, printed circuit boards, and position sensing devices.
  • Programs programmable logic controllers to control automated machinery.  Can make modifications to existing programs.
  • Programs and troubleshoots industrial robots
  • Can read electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic schematic diagrams.
 
 
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or GED or Associates Degree (AS) or four years related experience and/or training
  • The ideal candidate will have a minimum of three years’ experience in the troubleshooting and repair of equipment similar to CNC Machines, Mills, Lathes and robotics and have some machining and fabrication experience – including metal fitting, welding and cutting.

This position requires constant standing, walking; use of hands and fingers; frequent talking and hearing.  Requires occasional sitting, stooping, kneeling and crouching.  Incumbent must be able to frequently lift and carry up to 35 pounds. 
 
Position works both indoors in an office and manufacturing setting, as well as outdoors in a manufacturing environment.  While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and risk of electrical shock. The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, gas, odors, dust, mists, toxic or caustic chemicals; heights, cramped quarters, oil, grease and dirt. 
 
WORK ENVIRONMENT:  
While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts and is regularly exposed to fumes or airborne particles.  The employee occasionally works in outside weather conditions and is occasionally exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals, extreme cold, extreme heat and risk of electrical shock. 
 
The noise level in the work environment is classified as moderate to loud.
