Quality Technician - 2nd Shift

Summary Description: Inspects parts at various stages of production operations (beginning, in-process and completed) following printed inspection procedures to evaluate the quality of products to customer specifications.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities may include the following (others may be assigned):
  • Works with manufacturing supervisors to schedule priority of jobs to be inspected daily.
  • Daily verifies measuring equipment is in proper working order/condition.
  • Uses proper inspection methods, such as clamping, positioning and staging, for completion of measurement to parts, gages and/or fixtures, reference datums and surfaces. This assures that the data collected will be accurate and precise.
  • Measures dimensions and features for conformance to blueprint specifications using various types of measuring instruments such as fixed gages, templates, micrometers, calipers, height gages, comparator, tri-roll indicators, surface plates, hardness testers and surface-finish analyzers,  indicators, optical comparators and surface-finish instruments.
  • Inspects incoming products such as metal bars, complete or partial assemblies, plated parts, heat-treated parts and other purchased parts or materials.
  • Rejects or accepts partial or entire production lots according to conformance to specifications of samples inspected.
  • After performing inspections, records findings on inspection reports, quality history records, statistical process control charts/reports, etc. and quality rejection tags.
  • Examines parts to determine the quality of finish and to detect visible flaws, such as cracks, scratches, burrs and material flaws.
  • Verifies accuracy of production gages and instruments against master gages.
  • Assists operators in verifying part dimensions to specifications, including use of inspection and interpretation of drawings, routings, and Whitesell or customer manufacturing standards.
  • Interprets and demonstrates the operation of inspection methods, drawings and inspection routings to operators, ensuring quality is achievable for the job.
  • Communicates well with other shift inspectors to ensure smooth, efficient transition between shifts.
  • Notifies appropriate persons when inspections indicate progressive deterioration or nonconformance to specifications in product quality, so corrections can be made in machine processes or operating procedures and/or recommends correction procedures to design methods or processes. May indicate that machining operations should be stopped to reduce rework, sort of nonconforming parts/processes and lessen machine downtime.
  • Performs daily routine clean-up operations in work area.
  • Supports  ISO/TS-16949 efforts by compliance with quality policies and procedures
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Two plus years of machining experience / background
  • Strong math background
  •  Computer skills (Windows, Excel, Word)
  • Good communication skills
  • Excellent attendance record
  • Ability to work weekends, overtime, and cover for PTO and absences on other shifts, when necessary
